The Room Project!

Probably one of my favorite things to do in my free time, (which is hardly ever), is anything crafty. This includes drawing, painting, scrap-booking, and pottery. My last post described a very unique problem I have been having with Maddie, and this post will describe my solution.
Last Monday, I plotted and planned several different methods to return my little sleeping beauty to her own bed. The idea that I felt would be the most extreme and effective was a total remodel of her room. I started monday by going to Walmart and looking at all there children's bedspreads and bedroom decor. After much consideration and mixing and matching, I decided that a princess room was the way to go. I bought a cute pink princess blanket, a pastel, striped comforter, and some princess sheets. After I purchased the main staples for the redecoration, I came home and began sketching some princesses on the wall. I had to paint over some flowers that were already on the wall but was able to keep most of the flowers and butterfly that my brother and I had previously painted in her room. I also decided to keep the painted grass. I pretty much painted all day and well into the night on Monday and continued painting for a large portion of the day on Tuesday and Wednesday. Finally on Wednesday i finished painting. That afternoon I realized that although is was so much fun painting all the decorations on her walls that I wanted it to be a little more three dimensional. So I took a short trip to Hobby Lobby and found all these packs of multi colored flowers and butterflies for half off. I came home and that evening I was able to get everything taped to the wall. The entire project took me 3 days of painting, shopping, and decorating. Here are some pictures illustrating the fruits of my labor.

That night was our first trial run and although we did experience some big tears, several times throughout the night, Madeline slept in her room the whole night. And I am even happier to report that last night she slept in her bed the whole night without waking up once. I would like to take a minute and thank all the stores who have made it possible for me to sleep soundly in my own bed, by myself for the first time in months. Thank You!!!

  1. I could not be more happy and impressed with this result. You did such a great thing by making her room so new and enticing for her! I am so happy that she slept through the night in her own bed.. this is really important for her self confidence! Congrats on this huge success for you both. xoxo
